Dubai, May 03 (PW News): Drydocks World, a shipbuilding arm of Dubai World, inked a deal with a Swiss Company to develop the World Discus Hotel. Part of the undersea hotel, comprising a dive center and a bar, will be submerged at least 30 feat under the sea.
BIG Invest Consult, representing the Deep Ocean Technology holds the technology rights of the project and also funds the project. Cost for the project, involving seven different types of designs, varies in range of around $50 million to $120 million
“Rooms of the hotel will be equipped with specialized lighting systems and miniature underwater vehicles operable from inside the building, allowing the guest to have a closer view of sea life,” said Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World.
Drydocks and Maritime World are appointed as the prime contractors for construction of the new concept hotels and cities floating in the Middle East.
The company had filed a proposal last month to the Dubai World Tribunal, seeking for an insolvency protection in Dubai and Singapore. The proposal focused on the $2.2 billin debt restructuring deal.
Commenting on the company’s future targets Buamim added, “Plans are under progress to build similar such projects around the world, not just the UAE.”
